About Us

Who we are we ?

The Portishead Christmas Lights Team are a bunch of Volunteers who give up their free time to make Portishead the best festive town in the west !


The volunteers work all year round to ensure the display is maintained and gets better every year. 


In total, there is over 100 volunteers who have a range of skills from Electricians, artist, Olympic standard ladder holders to name a few.


But thing we all have in common is that we love Christmas and we love what we do !


What's the cost?

The  annual cost of the Portishead Christmas Lights every year is around £20,000. Whilst we do get a wonderful grant from our council, the majority of our monies come from sponsors and generous donations all year round.

Where does the money go ?

Every single pennies that the Portishead Christmas Lights receives goes towards what we do. 

  • We buy all our own equipment including bulbs and light strings
  • We maintain the equipment
  • We pay for all the electric used by the Portishead Christmas Lights
  • We pay all the safety checks that have to be completed
  • We pay for our own insurance and public liability
  • We pay and maintain our own Website
  • We pay for all the hire equipment used at put up and pull down
  • We buy over 100 Christmas tree's to decorate the high street 
  • We pay for own storage for all our equipment

So as you can see we have a lots of out goings every year and this is why we appreciate every single penny we receive.
